Secular Therapy is talk therapy that does not include religious interventions or affirmations.
Secular Therapy is ideal for non-religious individuals, individuals who want to process religion-based trauma, individuals who have already obtained religious counsel and would like supplemental counseling, or individuals who wish to keep religion and therapy separate. Secular therapy is client-led and works within a client’s personal values using evidence based practices.
Many therapists advertise as counselors with a reference to their religious beliefs, and are trained by religious colleges to incorporate these beliefs. Some therapists are not trained to be religious counselors but use their own religious beliefs as a basis for guiding clients. It is important to me that I make it clear to you ahead of time that my style of therapy is secular and scientific, to avoid any confusion or disappointment that can occur when religious interventions and affirmations are unexpectedly provided.
Both in-office and online telehealth sessions are available.
